A Powerful Weekend at the Rusty Truck Vendor Market – Du Quoin, IL

We spent this past weekend at the Rusty Truck Vendor Market in Du Quoin, Illinois, and while the weather threw us a serious curveball, it turned into one of the most memorable and meaningful events we’ve been part of.

On Saturday, a tornado warning rolled through the area, and the power was out the entire day. But that didn’t stop us—or anyone else—from showing up with heart and resilience. Vendors got creative, customers still came out, and there was this unshakable sense of community that carried everyone through. We lit a couple of our candles and kept focused on what matters most: connecting with people and sharing our mission.

All day long, we had incredible conversations with visitors, veterans and their families including Tony Eaton. Tony is the founder and president of Down the Leash Service Dogs and a USMC Veteran as well as a retired police officer. Tony has a passion for serving other veterans who are struggling by giving them the tools and training they need to train their own service partners.  We were honored to share the story behind Veterans Light Candle Company—how each candle we make helps support struggling and homeless veterans. It was especially powerful to hear stories from fellow veterans who stopped by to chat, swap experiences, or simply say, “Thank you for what you’re doing.”

Despite the weather and the challenges, the support we received was overwhelming in the best way. Folks bought candles, not just because they loved the scents (which we always appreciate!) but because they believe in the mission.

Du Quoin showed up with small-town strength and hospitality, and we’re so grateful for it. The Rusty Truck Vendor Market was packed with talented vendors, good people, and a whole lot of heart. Even without power, the spirit of the event never dimmed.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported us, and shared your stories. These are the moments that keep us going—and we can’t wait to do it again.

Until next time—stay safe, stay strong, and keep carrying the light.
